The Importance of Sleep to Dogs

Good sleep plays an important role in the health of dogs. Although we see that dogs spend a lot of time sleeping every day, there is not much time for them to fall asleep. Therefore, sometimes we see dogs listless. It is normal to sleep in the daytime, The most likely reason is that the dog didn’t sleep well at night for some reason. Bad sleep will lead to dogs’ lack of spirit, and their appetite may also be affected. Therefore, when we find dogs sleeping, we’d better not disturb them

1.Dog Sleep Frequency

Adult dogs sleep about 14-15 hours a day, but they don’t sleep all the time.

Instead, they are divided into several parts. They can sleep at any time 24 hours a day (usually at noon or two or three in the morning, when they are tired).

Puppies and children sleep about the same time. They can sleep at least 22 hours a day.

What is Deep Sleep?

In addition to resting the body, dogs, humans and other advanced mammals can also actively rest the brain and organize memory.
Deep sleep that can make the brain rest is "non heterogeneous sleep",
which is opposite to "heterogeneous sleep" that can make the body rest.

"Abnormal sleep" refers to sleep in which the body is sleeping but the eyes are still moving.
When the dog feels safe to the guardian and the surrounding environment, this safe command signal will be transmitted to
the dog's brain, making the dog gradually enter deep sleep, that is, non heterogeneous sleep, so that the brain can get a full rest.
